- Make sure that you can easily reach the player for pausing the tape

- Get your writing or typing materials together.
- Sit down with the player and begin playing the tape.

1 First listen: Outline.
- Outline the major topics or concepts of the lecture
- As you play the taped lecture
- Focus on listening and remembering what was said in class.

2 Second listen: Details.
- Write the supporting details
- under the major topics you recorded the first time.
- Write down the major topics or concepts of the leture

3 Third listen: Comprehension.
- Take a break from listening for at least a couple of hours.
- While you are cleaning or doing something that allows you to listen,
- listen to the taped lecture a third time.
- Use this time to test yourself to see if you can remember where the
lecture goes.
